A couple of days on the white sands of Playa Blanca (creative name) satisfied our thirst for beach – for now! We stayed in a basic hut on the beach (10/each) negotiated by a new Spanish speaking friend (we have vowed to take lessons soon). The long beach with sections filled with Colombians during the day emptied out at night, when we went looking for phosphorescents. Our way back to Cartagena was a little more adventurous on the back of a local moto and on the city bus. Just like at home Colombians are on their cell phones on the ride. As a way to make money, a few people boarded the bus distributing bracelets/snacks/drinks, give a talk on why they need the money, then circle back to collect money or the unpurchased items. Colombians were supportive, with no seller leaving empty handed. Following their lead I now have a nice bracelet to wear on our travels.
